OBITUARY
Of the late
Nkosi Isaac Mazibuko
(Born 24 December 1949, died 25 August 2017)
SAKI MAZIBUKO was born of the late Tina and Petrus Ntethe Mazibuko, with nine siblings and Ms Maleqhwa Mazibuko is the only surviving sister.
Ike married the late Mokgothunyana ‘Saba’ and they were blessed with four children, Phiwe(now late), Jabu, Vangi and Siza, together, they also raised Ntokozo, Phindile and Lilly. He leaves behind seven grandchildren.
Zakes, as affectionately known by his peers, became the first black Post Master of the now called SAPO in Durban, KZN from 1979. In the early 80s, Ike worked in the coal-bed of eMalahleni, where he fought fiercely for the worker’s rights and he was actively involved in the struggle for social justice.
Cde Ike became the Regional Organiser of NUM whilst he served in its National Executive Committee. Cde Ike played a pivotal role towards the formation of COSATU. He was one of the few cadres of the MDM who attended the last ANC Consultative Conference outside South Africa, known as the ‘Harare Declaration’.
